Cubs agree to terms with Wesley Wright

By on 12/04/2013 10:07:00 PM

As most of the baseball talk in Chicago's north side continues to center around whether or not Jeff Samardzija has been placed on the trading block, the Cubs made a minor move late-Wednesday signing left-handed reliever Wesley Wright to a 1-year contract, for a reported $1.42 mm.
Wright, heads to Chicago after splitting the 2013 season between the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays in the bullpen of each respected team. Recently non-tendered by Tampa Bay, Wright posted an accumulated 3.69 ERA, with 9.2 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 52 2/3 innings pitched.

Utilizing a fastball-slider combination, Wright has held left-handed hitters to a .231/.313/.342 mark over the course of a six-year Major League career. The 28-year old posted a 50.3% ground ball rate last season, and avoided the disabled list for fourth consecutive season, while appearing in 54 games in relief.
