Hawks' DeMarre Carroll sprains thumb in win over the Cavaliers

The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday by the score of 127-125. The win improved their record to 16-13, second in the Southeast Division. But the Hawks lost two players to injury in the game. Center Al Horford left with a shoulder injury and DeMarre Carroll left with a thumb injury.

Rotworld.com reported a tweet by the official Twitter feed of the Atlanta Hawks about Carroll's injury and status.

The injury looked bad, but may not be as bad as it first appeared.  The team will most likely re-evaluate Carroll on Friday and is currently questionable for Saturday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Carroll scored eight points, on 3-of-7 shooting before the injury occurred.  Shelvin Mack replaced Carroll and should get the bulk of the minutes as Carroll's replacement should he be unable to go on Saturday.

Carroll was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round in 2009 out of Missouri.  In his first season with the Hawks, he is averaging 9.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.  In parts of five seasons, Carroll has played for the Grizzlies, Rockets, Nuggets, Jazz and Hawks. The journeyman small forward is averaging 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds, in 201 career games.
