Panthers' Steve Smith will have MRI on knee Monday

By on 12/23/2013 07:30:00 AM

Panthers receiver Steve Smith left Sunday's victory over the Saints with an apparent knee injury. Smith was not able to return to action after being examined on the sideline. After the game, it was learned Smith would have an MRI Monday to determine the extent of the damage.
Smith had a catch of 44 yards before being forced to leave with the knee injury. Without Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and Greg Olsen were leaned on more heavily in the passing game.

Steve Smith is essential to the Panthers' vertical attack and it couldn't be a more crucial time, as the Panthers clinched a playoff berth with the win. Smith saying the injury is a sprain is all fine and good, but the results of the MRI will really speak to how long the Panthers can expect to be without Smith, if any game time is missed.
