Source: Yankees interested in trading for Jeff Samardzija

After adding hitters such as Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran, the New York Yankees are turning their attention towards adding starting pitching. The free agent market for pitching isn't very strong, so they are looking to add one via trade.

The Yankees are interested in trading for Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija, according to a source. Tom Loxas of Chicago Now has confirmed this report. He says that the deal would likely require a third team.

I talked to someone who speculated that the deal could include outfielder Brett Gardner. The deal would have to include more than Gardner.

Samardzija wouldn't be the Yankees ace by any means, but he would be a good get for them. Last season with the Cubs, Samardzija went 8-13 with a 4.34 ERA and a 214/78 strikeout-to-walk ratio. No deal is imminent.
