Patriots’ Julian Edelman looking to score his next contract

By on 1/31/2014 01:30:00 PM

As the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks get set to do the Lombardi tango on Sunday and while New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick tour the Pro Am circuit, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman states his case for "funny money" during his strut through Radio Row.

I have always maintained that Edelman should not give the Patriots a hometown discount and I have always maintained that the Patriots should not ask for one.  Edelman deserves to be shown the money and he thinks so as well, talking on Radio Row Thursday, JE had this to say:
Playing for New England is a dream, but like you said, there's a short window in this sport. I don't know yet. There's a lot of things that can happen going forward that could sway that one way or another.  Hopefully it all works out in favor for both.
Edelman also points out that he played “51 percent” of his snaps as an outside receiver this season.

To slot or not to slot is not the question, to pay or not to pay is.  It would not be a surprise for the Pats to let Edelman walk thinking they could squeeze a few extra games out of oft-injured WR Danny Amendola.

Edelman is a man on a mission and the Patriots are keenly aware.  Whether they pay the man his money, is another story.
