Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson left Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks with a back injury, as tweeted by Adrian Dater of the Denver Post. Johnson played only one shift in the third period and finished the game with 12:45 TOI, far from his 22:41 average. Brian Hedger of NHL.com reports that he is listed as day-to-day.

With Johnson leaving the game, the Avs were down to only 16 skaters in the game. As previously reported, Cory Sarich was a late scratch for the game, and the team dressed only 17 skaters to start.

In 46 appearances this season, the 25-year-old has seven goals and 13 assists, and is a plus-13. Seven of his points have come on the power play. He's currently second on the team in blocked shots, with Nate Guenin ahead of him by one.

The team's next game is Thursday night when the New Jersey Devils come to town.
