The Orlando Magic lost to the Miami Heat on Saturday by the score of 110-94. The loss dropped the Magic to 10-23, last in the Southeast Division. They played without the services of center Nikola Vucevic due to a sprained left ankle.
As reported by The Associated Press at miamiherald.com, Vucevic missed his second consecutive game and played only nine minutes against the Golden State Warriors on December 31. He also missed time earlier in the season with a left ankle injury.
The Magic went with a three-forward lineup without Vucevic. Glen Davis, Andrew Nicholson and Tobias Harris started, although Nicholson played only six minutes. Kyle O'Quinn, Jason Maxiell and Maurice Harkless were the backups. Expect the Magic to continue to go with all forwards in the front court until Vucevic returns.
Vucevic was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round out of USC in 2011. As a rookie, he averaged 5.5 points and 4.8 rebounds, in nearly 16 minutes per game. Vucevic has developed into one of the better centers in the league. He averaged 13.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game last season and nearly duplicated those numbers this season, at 13.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
