The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday by the score of 129-127.  The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped the Mavericks to  23-17, third in the Southwest Division.  Rookie guard Gal Mekel missed the game with a knee injury and and MRI on his knee indicates that he'll miss significant playing time.

David Pick,  senior correspondent at, tweeted the following about Mekel's injury.

Mekel hadn't been seeing a great deal of playing time as the backup to Jose Calderon, but someone else will have to step up until Devin Harris returns. Once Harris returns, expect he and Calderon to split the minutes at the point.  Rookie Shane Larkin, who had two points in six minutes against the Celtics, will likely be the backup to Calderon for the time being.

Mekel, the 25-year old rookie out of Wichita State, played two years in college and five years overseas before being signed to a three-year contract by the Mavericks in 2013.  In 30 games this season, Mekel is averaging 2.4 points and 2.1 assists, in 9.6 minutes per game.
