Phillies Rumors: Philadelphia showing interest in Vernon Wells

One thing the Philadelphia Phillies wanted to do this offseason was get younger. Their first signing of the offseason was 36-year-old Marlon Byrd and then they agreed to a deal with 30-year-old Ronny Cedeno.

The Phillies are now showing interest in 35-year-old free agent outfielder Vernon Wells, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

In 15 career seasons at the big league level, Wells has played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees. In those 15 seasons he has hit .270 with 270 home runs and 958 RBI's.

Signing Wells wouldn't make the Phillies younger by any means, but he would be a low risk, high reward type of signing for them.

  1. Wells is one of the "fill-ins" for last year's Yankees that actually did well enough to keep the team in Wild Card contention until a few days left in the season. Maybe he still has something left.
