Rockets' guard James Harden out second consecutive game

The Houston Rockets defeated the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday by the score of 117-115.  It was their second straight win to pull within three games of the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest Division.  The Rockets played without the services of guard James Harden, who missed his second consecutive game with a left thumb injury.

As reported by Tim MacMahon of, Harden was on the active roster on Wednesday, but was not in uniform. Jeremy Lin started in his place and had 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, in 37 minutes.  Patrick Beverley started at the point with Aaron Brooks as the only guard off the bench.

Harden injured his thumb during Saturday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Although Harden is seventh in the league in scoring at 23.7 points per game, he has been sidelined eight games already this season due to injury.

Harden was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009 out of Arizona State. He became an All-Star last season when he averaged 25.9 points, 5.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.  Harden's career averages are 17.1 points, 3.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.
