Angels Notes: Mark Mulder injures ankle, bullpen session cancelled

By on 2/15/2014 03:27:00 PM

Comeback candidate Mark Mulder experienced a setback during his first official workout as an Angel on Saturday, injuring his ankle during warmup drills and canceling his first bullpen session.

The 36-year old southpaw made headlines this summer agreeing to a minor league contract,
after conducting several offseason showcases in an attempt to return to Major League Baseball for the first time since 2008.

No stranger to injury, the former Oakland Athletics was essentially forced out of the game by multiple shoulder injuries that destroyed the later stages of his career pushing him into an early retirement.

With x-rays on the agenda, Mulder will face an early hurdle in the competition to claim the final Angels rotation spot from Tyler Skaggs and Joe Blanton.
