Bulls' Jimmy Butler suffers bruised ribs last night, questionable for Sunday

Chicago Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler exited last night's game against the Nuggets after hurting his ribs in a collision on his way to the basket. He was taken into the locker room to get his midsection evaluated, and did not return.

With just under two minutes left in the first quarter, Butler drove to basket and got fouled hard by Timofey Mozgov. The bucket landed, but Butler hit the deck and immediately clenched the right side of his ribs in agonizing pain.

After he got up and gained his composure, Butler knocked down the free throw and stayed on the floor to sink a three-pointer with a minute to go. But he couldn't withstand the pain and was taken off the court before the quarter ended. Fortunately for Bulls fans he wasn't diagnosed with broken ribs, according to Nick Friedell on Twitter.

Butler played a total of 11 minutes, scoring eight points with two rebounds and two assists. After Butler's departure, Tony Snell stepped in and played 37 minutes, scoring a career-high 20 points. Chicago went on and beat the Nuggets 117-89.

With bruised ribs, Butler will be questionable for their big matchup against the Heat on Sunday night. Coach Tom Thibodeau said he is conisdered day to day and it's a possibility he could travel with the team to Miami.
"It's one of those things, with a rib, we have to see how he is when he gets up tomorrow," Thibodeau said.
Butler has missed 13 games this season for Chicago. He is averaging 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 37.2 minutes per game.

With the win the Bulls improve to 29-25, putting them at fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
