St. Louis Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist was one of 13 pitchers scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Presidents Day, but he did not get the chance. Siegrist had soreness in his arm, and he took a day off from throwing to rest it.'s Cardinals beat writer Jenifer Langosch announced the news Monday afternoon.

In her February 17 blog post, Langosch says that Siegrist felt sore after his Saturday session. It is normal for some pitchers to feel a little sore right as they start throwing in Spring Training, but Siegrist decided to skip today's session as a precautionary measure. Siegrist said that he will not miss much time throwing; in fact, he participated in all of the non-throwing drills. The Cardinals also feel the soreness is a very minor issue.

Siegrist had an amazing rookie season as a left-handed specialist in 2013. He pitched a total of 39.2 innings in 45 appearances, amassing a record of 3-1, 0.45 ERA, 0.883 WHIP, 11.3 K/9 ratio, and 1.9 WAR while allowing just one home run. He also allowed just two runs in six postseason innings in nine appearances. With the left-handed power found in the National League Central division, Siegrist is a welcome sight in St. Louis.
