Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul will not need surgery

By on 2/01/2014 11:00:00 AM

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul told Connor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger Friday that he met with Dr. James Andrews recently and surgery was not recommended for the shoulder injury he played through in 2013.

Pierre-Paul is scheduled for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Andrews in six weeks, but being able to avoid surgery is always a positive sign in the NFL. JPP also said his back which prevented him from playing to his full potential in 2013 is around 95 percent, and that he was back to his full lifting routine.

Back in December, Pierre-Paul said he expected to be unstoppable in 2014. With no surgery needed and his back at 95 percent seven months before the season starts, it appears JPP can be as dominant as he wants to be next year. He will need to return to his old self if the Giants are going to return to the playoffs in 2014, especially if fellow defensive end Justin Tuck walks in free agency.
