Orioles' Miguel Gonzalez (back) may throw again Tuesday

Coming off a solid second year in the Major Leagues, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez looks to repeat and even improve on last year's performance. He took a small step back on Saturday as Orioles pitchers and catchers began Spring Training workouts, but he should be fine very soon.

Rock Kubatko of MASN reported Monday morning that Gonzalez experienced lower back tightness during running drills on Saturday and could not make his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday. He will throw lightly on Monday, and if all goes well, he will try his bullpen session on Tuesday.

Kubatko quotes the 29-year-old Gonzalez discussing his back tightness Monday morning. Said Gonzalez,
"I'm a lot better, looser. Just when I wake up in the morning, it's a little tight. But once I get going walking around, it feels a lot better."
Gonzalez has looked very good in his first two Major League seasons. In all, he is 20-12 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.218 WHIP, and 2.5 average WAR. He pitched 171 innings last year in 30 games, 28 of them starts.
