New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing successful surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right tibia, according to NBA.com.

Holiday has missed the last 23 games with the injury. It was originally reported that Holiday was anticipated to return to action some time this week. But after further development the situation only got worse for Holiday, forcing the Pelicans to pull the plug on his season.

The Pelicans had remained quiet for the most part on this issue since he last played on January 8th. But today they finally revealed the big news about Holiday's status.

In 34 games this season, Holiday has averaged 14.3 points, 7.9 assists and 1.6 steals in 33.6 minutes per game.

In Holiday's absence, expect point guard Brain Roberts to start for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old is under contract for the next three seasons at an average $10 million per season.

The Pelicans are 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 23-34.
