Blue Jays' Casey Janssen (abdominal strain) on 15-day DL

A lot of teams are putting players on the DL as they trim their rosters to 25 players by this afternoon's deadline, and here comes another, closer Casey Janssen of the Toronto Blue Jays  According to GM Alex Anthropoulos ("AA" in this tweet),
Toronto placed Janssen on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 29, making him eligible to return April 12. According to Drew Silva of, Sergio Santos will handle the closer's job in Janssen's absence.

Janssen, 32, emerged as an above-average closer (Sports Illustrated rated him No. 14), converting 34 of 36 save chances in 2013. In 53 innings he stuck out 50 batters with only 13 walks, and a WHIP of 0.987 and an ERA of 2.56. He will make $4 million in 2014 and be a free agent for 2015. 

Santos, 30, who spent four months on the DL in 2013 with an elbow injury, made 29 appearances for the Blue Jays, with eight holds, two blown saves, an ERA of 1.75, and a WHIP of 0.584. He struck out 26 with only 4 walks. Although he has not closed for Toronto, he saved 30 games for the Chicago White Sox in 2011. Santos is under team control through 2015.
