Brewers' Jean Segura (shoulder) may start season on DL

All-Star shortstop Jean Segura, whose dazzling defense and solid bat were one of the few bright spots in a dismal 2013 season for the Milwaukee Brewers, has been dealing with shoulder soreness that could land him on the DL for opening day, according to Tom Haurdricout of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal.  Adam McCalvy of writes that an MRI was performed, which came back negative.
Segura and [manager Ron] Roenicke each stressed that team doctors have examined the shoulder thoroughly and do not consider the matter serious. The problem is not the rotator cuff or labrum, but a strained muscle.
Segura has not played since March 18. If he only plays in minor-league and exhibition games, the Brewers can backdate his DL stint to March 21, which would allow him to play as soon as April 6.

Segura, 24, was acquired in July 2012 from the Los Angeles Angels as part of the Zack Greinke trade. He is arbitration-eligible in 2016, and under team control until 2019. In 2013 he put up a batting line of .294/.329/.423 with 12 homeruns and 44 stolen bases.
