Wide receiver Andrew Hawkins has swapped sides in the battle of Ohio as the former Cincinnati Bengal signed with the Cleveland Browns this week. Heading into his fourth NFL season, the dynamic WR agreed to a four-year deal worth $13.6 million according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Hawkins was placed on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury last September, but returned to practice by late October and started his first game of 2013 in Week 9. With 12 receptions and 199 yards in the eight games he played, he took a backseat to superstar A.J. Green and the rest of the Bengals’ pass-catchers Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu. Hawkins played a bigger role in Cincinnati's offense in 2012 with 533 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
His new teammate, running back Ben Tate who also signed with the Browns during free agency, welcomed the WR via Twitter:
Welcome to the #DawgPound RT @AdamSchefter: Bengals not matching Browns offer sheet for WR Andrew Hawkins. He's a Brown.Hawkins just turned 28 years-old this month, and will try to bounce back from his ankle injury in a big way, playing the slot position alongside 2013 breakout WR Josh Gordon.
