Garcia has missed significant time over the last two seasons with an ailing shoulder. Last season, after only making nine appearances with a record of 5-2 and a 3.58 ERA, he had to be shut down for the remainder of the year to undergo surgery.

In his two full seasons of work which came in 2010-11, Garcia did show some promise as a big league starter going 13-8 and 13-7 respectively.

For now, the Cardinals have the luxury of having one of the deepest rotations in baseball featuring budding superstars Lance Lynn, Shelby Miller, and Michael Wacha as well as one of the game's premier pitchers in veteran Adam Wainwright. If Garcia cannot make a speedy recovery, he make be looking to the bullpen for work due to another up and comer, Joe Kelly.
