Lions' Ezekiel 'Ziggy' Ansah should be ready for regular season

Detroit Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah is reportedly rehabilitating and working out in Los Angeles following shoulder surgery, reports Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com.

Ansah injured his shoulder in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Whether his recent surgery was to repair damage stemming from that injury or an aggravation of a prior injury is unclear.

The team was aware of a shoulder issue before last year's NFL Draft. Lions General Manager Martin Mayhew had this to say about Ansah's injury status:
It was one that we kind of flagged when we drafted him that it might be an issue down the road, So it was something that we were aware of that might need to be fixed at some point.

Despite suffering a concussion, shoulder and ankle injuries the fifth overall pick had a solid debut year. Ansah led all rookies with eight sacks and racked up 32 tackles with two forced fumbles in 14 games.

Ansah is expected to be ready for the regular season though Mayhew did not map out an exact timetable.  When Ansah returns largely depends on how well his offseason workouts go.  Limited participation in offseason workouts would extend the timetable for his return, something the Lions would rather not happen.
