Magic's Jameer Nelson and Victor Oladipo injury updates

By on 3/08/2014 05:30:00 PM

The Orlando Magic lost Wednesday against the Houston Rockets with a final score of 89-101. The loss brought the Magic to 19-44. The Magic are last in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference.

Tonight the Magic are scheduled to play the San Antonio Spurs in Texas. Point guard Jameer Nelson is scheduled to suit up tonight after returning from a sore calf that kept him out of the lineup for the last two games. Victor Oladipo did travel with the team on this road trip, but Orlando Beat writer, Josh Robbins reports that he will not play in tonight's match up. Oladipo sat out in Wednesday's match with a sore left ankle.

Robbins writes, "Rookie Victor Oladipo will miss his second consecutive game and will be held out when the Orlando Magic face the San Antonio Spurs tonight.

The stated reason continues to be a sore left ankle.

“He’s played 60 games, somewhere around there for us, or 62 games, and I think if you took a look at the top-five picks in the draft, I’m quite sure he led in games played,” coach Jacque Vaughn said after the Magic completed their gameday shootaround moments ago at AT&T Center.

“I think three weeks ago I said I was going to be judicious in his approach. I want to keep him healthy. What I don’t want to do is turn a little ache and pain into something serious. So the philosophy hasn’t changed since we’ve been here. We’re going to be cautious and get guys back on the floor when we feel that they’re OK to get back on the floor.”

Jameer Nelson was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 2004 NBA draft and was selected as the 20th pick in the 1st round. Nelson has a career average of 12.6 points and 5.3 assists per game. This year he is averaging 12.3 points and 6.9 assists per game.

Victor Oladipo was drafted by the Orlando Magin the 2013 NBA draft and was selected as the 2nd pick in the 1st round. Oladipo in his rookie year is averaging 13.9 points and 4.0 assists per game.

Fantasy Analysis (Fanduel Scoring): With Nelson back and Oladipo out, E'Twaun Moore, Doron Lamb, and Arron Afflalo should see more playing time. Nelson has always been a solid fantasy point guard and I have not seen any reports of him being on limited minutes. Tonight they face the Spurs and the experts are foreseeing a blowout. I would be cautious using any Magic players tonight.
