Greg Johns of MLB.com reported the progress Maurer made on Monday:
Brandon Maurer played catch yesterday and will start extending himself now as his back and neck feeling better. He first suffered the back injury a month ago, and wasn't expecting to be out of action very long. That hasn't been the case, as he's been limited to 4.2 innings this spring in two appearances. He's allowed five runs on eight hits, one walk and has hit two batters during that time.

Maurer was selected in the 23rd round out of Orange Lutheran High School by Seattle in the 2008 MLB draft and made his debut in the big leagues last April. He appeared in 22 games in 2013, 14 of which were starts.
The right-hander went 5-8 with a 6.30 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. He threw an additional 46.2 innings with Triple-A Tacoma, as well.
