Nuggets' Ty Lawson last second scratch in big win against Pistons

By on 3/20/2014 06:00:00 AM

Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson did not play in last night's win against the Pistons. Lawson's status remained questionable up until game time, but the point guard couldn't take the court due to a sinus infection, according to the Nuggets on Twitter. But his substitute Aaron Brooks filled in the void better than expected.

With Lawson's status up in the air all day, Brooks was on the ropes whether he would start or not. But he had no hesitations once the game started and had arguably the best game of his career.
"I thought [Lawson] was joking at first," Brooks said. "I was like, `Quit playing around. Get back out there.' But that's what you have to do. We all stepped up."
He scored a season-high 27 points with six rebounds and a career-high 17 assists, all but only missing one minute the entire game. The Nuggets won 118-109.

"Aaron did a great job of picking those guys apart . . . He did whatever he wanted to. He got to the rim. He got guys open for easy looks. He did a great job managing the floor today." said teammate Darrell Arthur after the game
Not only did Lawson have an illness but he popped up on the injury report earlier in the day with a groin injury. Lawson was suffering from groin issues back in November, and missed nine games in February with broken ribs. Lawson has missed 14 games this season, so it's fair to say he's used to missing action this year.

Lawson's status is uncertain for Friday against the Mavericks, but don't be surprised if he makes the trip to Dallas and play it by ear.

With the win the Nuggets improve to 31-37. They currently sit 11th in Western Conference.
