Reds' Mat Latos to make first start on Wednesday

The Cincinnati Reds have been bringing Mat Latos along slowly but surely this Spring.  First he had to have bone spurs removed from his elbow.  Then he had to have a meniscectomy on his left knee.  But things are starting to look up as C. Trent Rosecrans tweets:

Latos has been on a very slow schedule this Spring.  As reported right here, he played long toss on February 20th.  He threw a bullpen session & recently threw live batting practice the past Friday.  As the above tweet mentions, he'll have to have pain free catch today, which is likely, and then he will see action tomorrow in a minor league game.

Mat Latos came to Cincinnati with Edinson Volquez in the winter of 2011-12 from San Diego for a trio of prospects.  Last season he started thirty-two games for the Reds, going 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA.  He tossed at least six innings in twenty eight of those starts including his last twelve of the season.  He's considered a workhorse on the rotation and will be needed if the Reds plan to make the playoffs again this season.
