Tigers' Anibal Sanchez scratched with shoulder inflammation

By on 3/17/2014 01:45:00 PM

The Detroit Tigers have been getting a lot of bad news this Spring. First they lost Andy Dirks for three months. Then they lost Jose Iglesias for four months. Just when they thought it was all done, they had to scratch Anibal Sanchez from his scheduled start for today.

Sanchez has had a pretty good Spring so far.  He's made three starts, pitched nine innings and allowed three runs.  The righty was fourth in Cy Young voting last year and is arguably the best #3 starter in the major leagues.  It would be a huge hit to the Tigers if this injury ends up being more severe than originally thought.

Odds are the Tigers are being extra safe because of how often they've seen key players get injured this Spring.   Alarms should not be sounded off just yet but it will be a topic of conversation when Sanchez attempts to take the mound again.  He should be on the schedule again at the end of the week, stay tuned for an update.
