One of the Atlanta Braves' pitchers is on the mend. Mike Minor (LHP) will make his first start of the spring in an exhibition game against the Cubs at Chase field today, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Minor is one of four injured Braves pitchers expected to return to action soon—the others are Gavin FloydJonny Venters, and Luis Vasquezwhile starters Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen will miss the entire season with Tommy John surgery. Minor, along with Floyd and Venters, is on the 15-day DL as of March 21. They will likely be joined by reliever Cory Gearrin, who was diagnosed with an elbow strain after Tuesday's game.

UPDATE 3/29/2014 10:45 PM Due to weather, Mike Minor pitched only 14 pitches in Saturday's "Future Stars" game, but, according to Joe Morgan of, Minor was encouraged and plans to make another rehab start in five days.

Minor, 24, fell behind in his preparation due to recovery from December surgery on his urethra and was further delayed by left shoulder soreness. He is expected to join the rotation in late April or early May.

Mike Minor was part of an excellent starting rotation in 2013—a rotation that propelled the Atanta Braves ahead of the pre-season favorite Washington Nationals to win the National League East by ten games. He made 32 regular season starts, going 13-9 with an ERA of 3.93, WHIP of 1.090, 181 strikeouts and ERA+ of 120 (100 is average). He started Game 2 of the NLDS, pitching six innings and giving up one run in Atlanta's 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Minor is on a one-year $3.85 million contract (arbitration, Super 2) and under team control until 2018.
