A's Yoenis Cespedes leaves with heel problem

By on 4/21/2014 10:15:00 AM

Oakland A's outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left last night's victory over the Houston Astros after six innings, with Jane Lee of reporting that the reason was a bruised right heel.

Craig Gentry replaced Cespedes in left field for the remainder of the game. Manager Bob Melvin told Lee that he would not be surprised if the Cuban was available for Monday's contest against the Texas Rangers, and certainly didn't appear to expect Cespedes to miss any more than a single game.

The 28-year-old has been dealing with the heel problem all season, having been seen limping in the dressing room because of the injury during the first week of April. It doesn't seem to be something that the A's feel is worthy of a DL stint, so Cespedes is likely to keep playing through it with the occasional off-day to manage the symptoms, or even a mid-game replacement if the issue flares up, as happened yesterday.
