BREAKING: Rangers' Shin-Soo Choo leaves game with ankle injury

By on 4/22/2014 01:27:00 AM

The Texas Rangers believe that outfielder Shin-Soo Choo sprained his ankle as he stepped on first base in the 7th inning of tonight's game against the Oakland Athletics, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Choo was replaced in left field by Michael Choice. Choo was originally called safe, but Oakland challenged and Choo was ruled out. Texas won the game 4-3. Here is video of the play.

Choo led off the game with this home run and walked prior to the injury.

Choo, 31, was signed as a free agent by the Rangers in December 2013 to a seven-year $130 million contract through 2020. The veteran outfielder's great skill in getting on base (.393 OBP from 2007-2014) and speed make him the ideal lead-off hitter for Texas. He is off to an excellent start in 2014, slashing .313/.429/.463 in 19 games.
