Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao could play versus Hawks

By on 4/04/2014 10:30:00 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night by the score of 119-98. The win was the second straight for the Cavaliers who improved to 31-45, third in the Central Division.  With six games remaining in the season, the Cavaliers are two games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The good news going into this home stretch is that center Anderson Varejao may return tonight against the Hawks.

M.S. Boyer and J. Valade, who cover the Cavaliers at for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, tweeted the following on Varejao's status.
With the acquisition of Spencer Hawes from the Philadelpiha 76ers, Varejao has been used in a reserve role. Nevertheless, the Cavaliers are a better team with him as part of the front court rotation than without Tyler Zeller backed up Hawes against the Magic and had four points, three rebounds and two blocks in 19 minutes. Expect Zellers' playing time to decrease upon Varejao's return.

Varejao, the 31-year old center from Brazil, is in his 10th NBA season. In 60 games this season, he is averaging 8.6 points and 10 rebounds in 28.3 minutes per game. Varejao has career averages of 7.8 points and 7.8 rebounds in 529 games..
