Puig has been bothered by his left thumb for a few days now. He's had an MRI as well as X-Rays while missing some games but continues to be day-to-day. Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times has an update for us from Don Mattingly after Puig saw hand specialist Dr Steve Shin on Tuesday.
“I think they’ve tried to fit him with a splint, to see what he can do with that,” Mattingly said. “He’s going to try and throw and hit a little bit inside. For now, he’s day-to-day and we’ll see how he goes.”Puig has missed three games now on top of the game he sat due to discipline problems. He'll see what he can do today while wearing the splint. Hanley Ramirez wore a thumb splint last season while he recovered from surgery. Look for Puig to return to the lineup soon. So far Puig is hitting .250 (6-24) with a home run & four runs batted in.
Billingsley had Tommy John on April 24th of last year so he's right on schedule to return relatively soon. He started ramping up his baseball activities recently and things got a little scary. From Steve Dilbeck:
"Chad Billingsley’s comeback from Tommy John surgery has been pushed back a few days after he felt something in his elbow in his first rehab start Sunday, but the Dodgers believe he was simply feeling scar tissue pop."It's scary whenever you hear a pop in the elbow, whether it's ligament based or not. Everyone from Billingsley to the Dodgers think it's just scar tissue and he'll be fine but only time will tell. This is a story that will likely continue to develop no matter what the result.
