John Denton, who covers the Magic for, tweeted the following, confirming Nelson's status.
The Magic are finishing a nightmarish season in which they've won only 23 games, third worst in the NBA.  They are 31 games out in the Southeast Division and 14 games behind the Hawks for fourth place in the division.  They were 25th in points scored and 18th in points allowed. Only five players appeared in 70 or more games.

Nelson hasn't appeared in more than 70 games in a season since 2010-2011, and only three times in his career. A 10-year veteran out of Saint Joseph's,  Nelson has played his entire career with the Magic.  He finished the season averaging 12.1 points and seven assists in 68 games this season, but shot just 39.4 percent from the floor. In 651 career games, Nelson is averaging 12.6 points on 44.2 percent shooting, and 5.4 assists per game.
