Mariners' James Paxton leaves game with a left lat strain

By on 4/09/2014 12:37:00 AM

Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels, Mariners’ left hander James Paxton left the game with a left lat strain. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time.

Paxton, 25, went 7 innings in his first start this year without giving up a run against the Angels. On Tuesday, he pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 runs before leaving the game with the injury. He allowed a leadoff single in the sixth to Angels leadoff man Kole Calhoun and appeared to point to his triceps area of his throwing arm before being taken out of the game.

In 2013, Paxton pitched 24 innings with a 1.50 ERA while striking out 21 and walking 7 after being called up in September. He had three out of four quality starts against the Royals, Cardinals, and Rays.

We will update you on any more information as it comes out.  Taijuan Walker and Hisashi Iwakuma are coming back from injury soon as they are part of the Mariners' future.
