Mariners' James Paxton likely for DL

By on 4/09/2014 07:30:00 PM

According to Greg John of MLB.com James Paxton is likely headed to the Disabled List after leaving Tuesday's game with a left lat strain as SportsInjuryAlert reported last night.

Paxton, 25, went 7 innings in his first start this year without giving up a run against the Angels. On Tuesday, he pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 runs before leaving the game with the injury. He allowed a leadoff single in the sixth to Angels leadoff man Kole Calhoun and appeared to point to his triceps area of his throwing arm before being taken out of the game.

In 2013, Paxton pitched 24 innings with a 1.50 ERA while striking out 21 and walking 7 after being called up in September. He had three out of four quality starts against the Royals, Cardinals, and Rays.

We will update you on any more information as it comes out.  Taijuan Walker and Hisashi Iwakuma are coming back from injury soon as they are part of the Mariners' future.

Roelis Elias pitches Wednesday night against the Angels in the second game of the series after taking game one Tuesday night.
