Mavericks' Monta Ellis and Shawn Marion play in loss to Spurs

The Dallas Mavericks lost to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday by the score of 109-100. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 48-32, third in the Southwest Division and eighth in the Western Conference. The good news is the Mavericks both Monta Ellis and Shawn Marion played despite being banged up, which bodes well heading into the playoffs.

Earl K. Sneed, who covers the Mavericks at, tweeted the following confirming the injury status of Ellis and Marion.
Ellis had 24 points on 10-of-22 from the floor, to go along with four assists and four rebounds in 38 minutes. Marion added 12 points on 5-of -7 shooting from the floor, to go along with three rebounds, two blocked shots and an assist in 29 minutes.

The Mavericks are a game ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.  A healthy Ellis and Marion could be key to the Mavericks' success in the playoffs.  Ellis is averaging 18.7 points and 5.8 assists per game this season, while Marion is averaging 10.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
