New York Mets to activate Juan Lagares tomorrow

By on 4/30/2014 04:00:00 PM’s Adam Rubin confirmed today that Juan Lagares of the New York Mets will be returning to the big club shortly. Lagares had originally been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to hamstring discomfort.

Lagares, who is eligible to return today, will be activated by the Mets after tonight’s game with Triple-A Las Vegas. If all goes well the speedy outfielder will be back with New York by tomorrow. Upon his return, Lagares will probably be forced to sit on the bench or platoon in the outfield. He was given the starting job once newly acquired Chris Young went on the disabled list but now that Young has returned Lagares will for now be nothing more than a backup.

When he is playing, Lagares is one of the best center fielders in the game. He has great anticipation and his speed allows him to cover plenty of ground. The Mets signed Chris Young to provide a little more pop in the lineup largely due to the fact that Lagares hit only four home runs in just under 400 at-bats last season. He had been playing well both in the field and at the plate until his injury, slashing .314/.345/.471 before the injury.
