Rockets' Dwight Howard ruled out tonight against Timberwolves

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard will not play tonight against the Timberwolves, according to Jason Friedman on Twitter. Howard will miss his eighth straight game with an ankle injury.

In Howard's seven game absence the Rocket's have gone 3-4. More duly noted, Houston has been one of the worst defense's in the NBA during that span. In their past three games they have given up 378 points - the most points they have given up in a three-game span this season. Omer Asik will once again start tonight at center in Howard absence.

With only four games left in the regular season, Houston is in danger of losing the fourth seed to the Trail Blazers. In the past seven games, Portland have gained a three-game edge over the Rockets and now only trail Houston by a game-and-a-half.

The Rockets (52-26) still have a way to steal the third seed from the Clippers (55-24), but they must hope for L.A. to lose their last three games and do their best to win out.
