Twins put Oswaldo Arcia on DL, Josh Willingham should avoid it

Minnesota Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia was hoping that his sore right wrist would feel better during batting practice on Wednesday. It didn't.'s Rhett Bollinger reports that Arcia has been placed on the DL, retroactive to Saturday, while fellow outfielder Josh Willingham is progressing better and should be able to avoid a stint, as assistant GM Rob Antony told Bollinger before the game:
"Willingham is still sore, but it doesn't have that biting pain, so he's heading in the right direction," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said before Wednesday's game. "Arcia took a full round of BP and still feels it, so I think there's a good chance we put him on the DL."
Darin Mastroianni was called up to replace Arcia, while Jason Kubel and Chris Herrmann made outfield starts with both Willingham and Arcia out of the lineup. Willingham was struck on the hand by a Justin Masterson fastball on Sunday, as reported by our own Raymond Bureau. X-rays were negative and so the veteran is just waiting for the swelling and soreness to subside before he gets back in the lineup.

Mastroianni can play center field, having made 394 starts there in the minors and another 8 in his relatively brief major-league career. Chris Colabello, who is off to a hot start, also made his first start in right field earlier this week, giving the Twins a variety of options to rotate on the corners and potentially give regular center-fielder Aaron Hicks a rest.
