By on 5/11/2014 12:30:00 PM

The Braves Justin Upton had a rough night last night. He was collided into by Anthony Rizzo during a run down, and then he was hit in the back by a 94 MPH fastball from Jeff Samardzija. The injury was announced as a lower back contusion.

Braves beat writer for, Mark Bowman, reports that the Braves plan to rest Upton for the series finale today against the Cubs. According to Upton, "With the back, it doesn't have to hit you in the same spot," Upton said. "I don't know if it did or didn't. All I know is my back locked up again."

The Braves expect there slugging left fielder back in the line up monday night, as long as Upton does well on the teams flight to San Francisco. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, shows some concern as he thought Upton would be fine after he got a hit the following at bat after the collision with Rizzo. Gonzalez stated, "We thought we dodged a bullet when he went back out there and then he got a base hit. But then it got him right in the same spot. We'll see how he feels [Sunday]. But with a short turnaround, we'll probably let him rest. Hopefully, it doesn't materialize into anything more than a sore back."
