I reported on May 18 that Ruggiano has been sidelined after feeling his hamstring pop while chasing a fly ball in a game on April 23. Igor Mello at CBSSports.com reported that Ruggiano began his rehab assignment for Triple-A Iowa on Monday. He played six innings in the field before leaving the game in the bottom of the seventh after going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Ruggiano, in his first season with the Cubs, started his career with the Rays and played for the Marlins the past two seasons. He batted .222 with 18 home runs and 50 RBI last season. In 14 games with the Cubs, Ruggiano is batting .229 with a home run and six RBI. He is a career .251 hitter with 38 home runs and 115 RBI.
