Dodgers' Ryu will throw off mound on Tuesday

By on 5/12/2014 08:00:00 AM

After being placed on the disabled list with left shoulder blade inflammation, as Chris Arndt of Sports Injury Alert reported, Hyun-Jin Ryu will throw off of the mound Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of first reported Sunday morning.

Ryu is eligible for activation on Tuesday May 13th, but there is still a chance he stays on the disabled list. The team doctors comfirmed that no surgery was needed and was cleared for throwing on May 9th.

Ryu continues to throw from flat ground as he builds his velocity back up until he is ready to take the rubber. He could throw to live batters if he throws a successful bullpen session Tuesday.

Ryu, 27, is 3-2 with a 3.00 earned run average and a 1.23 WHIP in 7 starts this season. So far, he has nearly the same stats as his rookie campaign in 2013 where he went 14-8, 3.00 earned run average, 1.20 WHIP, and a 3.3 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) in 25 starts.

The Dodgers just dropped three of four from the first place Giants and are looking to go on a winning streak when the Marlins come in for a three game series. They are 20-19, which is good for third place behind the Rockies and Giants after winning the National League West by a landslide last season.
