Orioles Injury Update: Francisco Peguero to remain on DL

By on 5/29/2014 02:30:00 PM

Dan Conolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that although Francisco Peguero's rehab period has expired, he will not be activated. The right-handed outfielder was originally placed on the 15-day DL March 21 recovering from a strained wrist, but suffered a hamstring injury at Triple-A Norfolk.

Peguero played 35 games with the San Francisco Giants the past two seasons, hitting .200 in 45 at-bats. But he is a career .307 minor league hitter and considered a strong defensive outfielder. Peguero has no remaining minor-league options, so when activated he must join the major-league team or pass through waivers. However, the Orioles already have right-handed reserves in Delmon Young and Steve Pearce.

Peguaro, 26, was signed by the Giants in August 2005 out of the Dominican Republic and made his debut on August 25, 2012. In December 2013 he signed as a free agent with the Orioles and is on the 40-man roster. He is pre-arb and under team control through 2019.
