By on 5/04/2014 10:12:00 PM

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce will have surgery this week to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Chris Heisey replaced Bruce in right field batting 4th in Cincinnati’s 4-3 extra innings win over Milwaukee on Sunday at Great American Ball Park.

This season, Bruce has a slash of .216/.352/.363 with 3 home runs, 14 runs batted in, 32 strikeouts, and 22 walks while playing in 30 games.

In 2013, Bruce hit for a line of .262/.329/.478 with 30 home runs, 109 runs batted in, 63 walks, 185 strikeouts in 160 games. He accumulated an impressive 5.1 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) while also stealing 7 bases.

We will update you as more information comes out. The Reds start a short two game series in Boston on Tuesday for their second interleague matchup of the season. The Reds are 15-16, which is good enough for 2nd place in the National League Central.
