Royals Injury Update: Salvador Perez' thumb still a problem

By on 5/23/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Kansas City Royals enter a weekend series against the Los Angeles Angels with a 23-23 record, third in the American League Central. The Royals were without catcher Salvador Perez for the second straight game in the team's win over the White Sox on Wednesday. There is no word whether or not Perez will be ready for the weekend series.

As reported by Marty Gitlin at CBSSports.com, an X-ray on the thumb of Perez can back negative, but he is not ready to return to the lineup. Perez was struggling prior to the injury, with just two hits over his last 15 at bats. Brett Hayes  started the previous two games in place of Perez and was 0-for-6 with a strikeout.

Perez, a four-year Major League veteran from Venezuela, has played his entire career with the Royals. He's batting .261 with four home runs and 12 RBI this season. Last year, Perez batted .292 with a career high 13 home runs and 79 RBI. He's a career .296 hitter with 31 home runs and 151 RBI.
