Yankees' Mark Teixeira out Monday, expected back Tuesday

By on 5/12/2014 06:30:00 PM

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was red hot against the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend: 4 for 8, 2 HR, and 4 R. He will cool down on Monday and sit out the first game of the Subway Series with the New York Mets, though, because of tightness in the left side of his groin. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch announced the news Monday afternoon.

Teixeira is hitting .266/.383/.557. He leads the team with seven home runs and is second with 16 RBI as play begins on May 12. He provides a big bat that the team missed last year when he played in just 15 games because of injuries.

The strain does not look serious, and manager Joe Girardi expects to have him back in the lineup on Tuesday. That would serve the Yankees well as Teixeira is hitting .300 with 4 HR and 10 RBI in his last ten games.
