Angels Injury Update: Tyler Skaggs runs with no issues

By on 6/14/2014 11:15:00 AM

The Los Angeles Angels lost the first of a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves by the score of 4-3. The loss dropped the Angels to 36-30, three and a half games behind the Oakland A's in the American League West. The Angels, who are fourth in runs scored, but just 17th in ERA, received some good news on the injury front. Pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who is on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, made progress yesterday in his recovery.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on June 10 that Skaggs was placed on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Skaggs left his last start after five innings and four earned runs. Manager Mike Scioscia said that Skaggs should return on June 26 when he's eligible to come off the disabled list.

Jeff Fletcher, who covers the Angels for the Orange County Register, tweeted the following update on Skaggs.
Hector Santiago, who struggled earlier this season, took Skaggs place in the rotation and pitched well in his last outing. He allowed no runs on three hits, while striking out eight, in six innings.  Santiago is 0-6 with a 4.15 ERA this season.

Skaggs is in his first season with the Angels after pitching in 13 games in the last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He's appeared in 12 games and is 4-4 with a 4.34 ERA.  Skaggs has a career record of 7-10 with a 4.85 ERA in 25 starts.
