Athletics Injury Update: Kyle Blanks will go on DL

By on 6/24/2014 09:45:00 AM

The Oakland A's lost a 7-6 decision to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday to fall to 47-29 on the season. Stephen Vogt and John Jaso each hit a home run for the A's. Fernando Abad gave up a run in the 10th inning to take the loss. Even with the loss, the A's have a comfortable five game lead in the American League West. The A's appeared to have lost first base man Kyle Blanks for a period of time, as he was forced to leave the game with a calf strain. Brandon Moss replaced Blanks and went 1-for-2.

Our own Darius Austin reported on June 23 that Blanks was forced to leave the game after trying to score from third base on a ground ball. He was thrown out and limped back to the dugout, with what was later revealed as a calf strain.

Jane Lee, who covers the A's for, tweeted the following update on the status of Blanks.
Blanks, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .333 with two home runs and seven RBI with the A's this season, and .309 overall with the Padres and A's. In 260 career games, Blanks has a batting average of .234 with 30 home runs and 105 RBI.
