Blue Jays Injury Update: Adam Lind exits with foot contusion

By on 6/15/2014 10:15:00 AM

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman and DH Adam Lind left Saturday night's 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles after fouling a ball off his right foot. According to's David Wilson, Dioner Navarro's pinch-hit appearance for Lind in the eighth inning came as a result of Lind fouling a pitch onto that foot during his sixth inning at-bat.

Despite not wearing a foot or shin guard to shield that area of his body, Lind seemed relatively optimistic that the injury was not severe, as quoted by Wilson:
"It's just a bone bruise," Lind said. "Hopefully I wake up tomorrow and it'll be fine."
With an off-day on Monday, the Blue Jays may choose to be cautious and rest Lind to give him two full days off to heal. He does not normally have to play the field - he only has 13 of the 70 starts at first base this season, compared to Edwin Encarnacion's 54 - so whether he plays on Sunday should primarily be a case of whether he can plant his foot effectively and run the bases.

Following the conclusion of the series with Baltimore, the Blue Jays will head to New York to face the Yankees in a three-game set, then will hope that R.A. Dickey, who was also forced out of last night's game with a groin injury, will be ready to start when they begin a series against the Reds in Cincinnati on Friday night.
