Blue Jays Injury Update: Sergio Santos rehab result

By on 6/11/2014 11:15:00 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays fell to 37-29 on the season, following a 4-0 loss last night to the Minnesota Twins. Even with the loss, the Blue Jays are five and a half games up on the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees in the American League East. The Blue Jays have been carried by an offense that is second in the league in runs scored. In order to maintain their position in the standings, they will need to get better performances out of the pitching staff. One key injury to the staff is to reliever Sergio Santos, who has been out since mid-May. He made a rehab appearance last night.

As reported by R.J. White of, Santos began his rehab assignment with Double-A New Hampshire on Tuesday. Although his results were not stellar, it was a good sign that he was back out on the mound in game action. Santos allowed three earned runs, three hits, two walks and a strikeout, in one innings.  Santos could return early this weekend if all goes well in the rehab assignment this week.

Santos, in his fifth Major League season, is 0-2 with five saves and a 9.00 ERA this season. He's allowed 13 hits and 11 walks in 12 innings, while striking out 20. In 168 career games, Santos is 7-11 with 39 saves and a 3.65 ERA.
