Braves Injury Update: David Carpenter could return Wednesday

By on 6/29/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Atlanta Braves won both ends of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. The wins improved the Braves to 43-38 on the season. The Braves continue to rely on a pitching staff that is 6th in the Major Leagues in ERA. There is some good news on the injury front which could strengthen the staff even further, as Matt Carpenter is on a rehab assignment and could return on Wednesday.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on June 17 that Carpenter placed on the DL with a strained right biceps. Carpenter was used hard prior to the injury, pitching five times in six days.  Both manager Fredi Gonzalez and Carpenter felt that he'd be ready to go when eligible to come off the disabled list.

Carpenter has since begun a rehab assignment and David O'Brien, who covers the Braves for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, tweeted the following on Carpenter's outing.
Carpenter, in his fourth Major League season, is 4-1 with a 4.23 ERA this season. In 27 2/3 innings, he's allowed 40 hits and eight walks, while striking out 35. In 157 career games with the Astros, Blue Jays and Braves, Carpenter is 9-7 with a 3.76 ERA.
